You'll also see it in female guppies after giving birth several times. Deformities are also hereditary. Some claim too high a tank temp will cause the same problem. Tuberculosis in trops sometimes starts with bent spines and progresses to open wounds/wasting. Take your pick. --garyroland. --Vero Beach, Florida. |

A bad diet, a lack of vitamin D mostly, will show up in trops as a deformed spine. Neons with NTD will present a complete color degeneration, become weak and die. False NTD presents the same conditions but the fish survives. There's no way of telling in the beginning which disease is the real thing. The fish should be destroyed no matter what the conclusion.
