We have a betta in a 5 gallon tank with filter and heater.
We came home today to find him laying in the bottom of the tank on his side.He will every few minutes thrash around in the tank wildly and then settle back on the bottom. He seems to also be slowly losing his color turning an off white almost gray.Any ideas on what my problem may be? Is there anything I can do if so what?
The water is changed in the tank once a week.
ph:7.5,ammonia:0,nitrites:0,nitrates:0,water temp. :78
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I actually have no idea what is wrong, but here is a couple of things to try. First though how old is he?

Now, when Leslie's GoFish was sick last fall, everyone had given up hope on him, and this is what we did...and for some odd reason he is doing great today

Do a water change...if there isn't anything in there with him do 75%. I'm thinking that there might be some sort of toxin in the water...by removing the water, and adding FRESH Treated water hopefully this will help...also check to make sure that your heater and other electrical pieces aren't sending shorts out and electrifying the water...I haven't seen it happen, but have heard of it...Do this and let us know if it helps...also I would do another water change tomorrow, and the next day...you see the way I'm thinking, eventually if there are toxins in teh water this will get them down to basically nill...Best of luck, Heidi

Well unfortunately he passed away some time last night. He was about 3 years old, so I assume it just may have been his time.

So sorry for your lost. You done well to have it for 3 years. Bettas come down fast with disease when they get stressed out. Your fella must have been a happy little chappy to last 3 years. ***Tiger.

I'm sorry Cichlid for your loss, I know how hard it can be to lose a fish you've had for such a long time. I'm willing to bet that his time had come, and you served him the best you could. Now he can go on, and be with our friends, who have passed in the great water beyond...
