MaryPa![]() Hobbyist Posts: 105 Kudos: 82 Votes: 1 Registered: 17-Nov-2003 ![]() ![]() | Some of my albino corys have spawned and have eggs all over the glass. The sad part is they`re 2 of 3 survivers in a sick tank.I had 14 fish and all died from bloat and wasting disease.I tried all I knew to save them but couldn`t.Some people have suggested they may have had TB.They`ve been quarentined in their original tank and care has been taken not to cross contaminate any equiptment.I don`t have the heart to put any down since they look very healthy. It`s just the 2 corys and a glass fish. The sickness started over a month ago with the last death 4 days ago. My question is how do I know if it was TB?What else could have cause so many symptoms? Barbs and a cory were bloated and the danios looked like they had wasting disease.Any ideas? |

In severe infestations the whole fish population will be affected and just waste away. The best thing to cure them with is Levamisole hydrochloride. You can get this drug from a farm feed supplier. It is available as 'oblates' or infectible. Use 800mg per 10US gallons and make sure your pH is about 6.6. If the pH is above 7 the drug is made unusable. The drug is absorbed through the gills of the fish, so even if your fish is too sick to eat, it will get the full effect. After 24 hours do a very very large water change. Repeat the dose after 3 to 4 days because any eggs or casings present in the fish are not affected by the drug. Therefore, you have to wait until they hatch. Unfortunately the intestinal walls of some fish are so badly damaged that there's really no hope for some. I regret my information came too late and I'm sorry you lost so many fish. I realize how depressing it must have been for you. --garyroland. |

Fish become lifeless and often crippled–with a bent spine. Fish develop ulcers under the skin and may rupture causing open sores and “pop-eye.” A: This disease is highly infectious and deleterious. Bacteria can remain living in the gravel to infect other fish when they are weakened. Some success has been achieved by treating infected fish with antibiotics (Oxytetracycline and Kanamycin), although often it is best to kill the fish and put it out of its misery. When removing piscine tuberculosis victims, do so with care, as this disease can be transmitted to humans. None of my barbs and corys were wasting, they were bloated and one has a small pink growth on it`s side. The danios were wasting tho.Now i`m thinking maybe they didn`t have TB.Too many symptoms in one tank has me puzzled. ![]() |

The disease has similar profiles as some other diseases but usually the telltale signs are skin sores along with wasting. Neon Tetra Disease can present the same signs but the fish just waste away with no sores present. Although NTD is found in Neons, the disease can be contracted by other species also. The disease takes its time affecting trops and within a month or two the whole tank can slowly die off. Some species with a possible immunity to the disease will survive but sadly may be carriers and have to be destroyed. The tank has to be broken down and all contents sterilized. I would strongly suggest the same treatment for your tank. --garyroland. --Vero Beach, Florida. |
