Hi,

I need some major help. I've got a 40 gallon tank with 9 balck skirts, 2 albino corys and 1 bristlenose. Several months back I brought some neons to build up my neons. They came from a "quality" fish store which I've never had problems with before. My quarentine tank was not running so they were added into the main tank. About a week after things got bad. It appeared that the tetras had ick. All the neons died before and during the Nox-Ick treatment (half dosage as directed for tetras). My original black skirts also eventually died as well as a couple of corys. I continued treatment and the leftover corys and bristlenose has been fine since. A week ago I bought new black skirts (from another store) and the whole thing is starting over again. The bristlenose has no ick from what I can tell. The corys are white so I can't really see anything on them either but the black skirts are starting to look bad and getting worse and I've been treating the tank for 5 days now. Normally I've been able to treat ick in 3 days. I'm really stumped. I tried taking a picture but it's too blurry but it looks like any other ick picture. Help!!!!

I'm using an emperior 280 with no carbon. I'll try raising the water temp. Thanks.

Hey just a couple of quick questions. How long were the fish in your tank before you noticed the ich? Ich is usually caused by the fish somehow becoming stressed out lots of time do to poor water quality or being inadaquately acclimated to the tank. So how did you acclimate them and What is your cleaning schedule?
Also a sudden drop in temperature can cause ich. Any chance of this happening?

The fish were in the tank for almost a week. I use the float method while slowly adding tank water every 10 mins or so. I clean my tanks once a week with a 25% water change. No temp changes. I use two heaters just in case. I've had outbreaks of ich in the past with new fish and treating them was never a problem. 3 or 4 days max. It just this last time I struggling with it.

Along with the ich medication and raising the temperature of your tank, you might also try vaccuming your gravel every couple of days(about a 20% water change) to hopefully vaccum up some of the ich spores that have fallen off the host fish before they can spawn and go out into the tank looking for new host fish.
