Hi all. After the recent illness of the Betta (white spots), I noticed that my neons are also affected by the same problem. For that reason, I got a medication for white spots, called PROTOZIN. It has a dangerous looking blue colour to it, and its danger was realised when I accidently spilt a few drops on my favorite jumber. After soaking it in hot water for a few hours, and trying to take it out, I realised that it was no good. Gone forever.

Anyway, I put the stated dose into the tank, and it turned the whole water in the tank to a very diluted blue colour. Looking at the tank, I don't know if I'm doing the fishes any favours, or maybe colouring their insides blue.

Is this colour normal, or have I put too much in? I only put around 2ml to a tank which holds approx 40 litres of water. (i.e. stated dose).

It says the treatment should be repeated on days 1,2,3 and 6. Should I do partial water changes when medicating the tank, or just add the next dose to the existing water again?

Help/advice/comments, are all appriciated.

Thank you in advance.

hmm, sounds normal. The medicine itself is a dye, and stains everything it comes into contact with. I dont think you water change with it either.

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

OK then, so its a false alarm. Strangely enough, the tank is getting its old colour back again slowly. Hopefully all will work out fine.

Thanks people.

Definitely sounds as if Protozin contains malachite(Please excuse the spelling)blue. You may possibly want to try what I keep on hand in case one of my fish gets ick. Kordons Ick Attack, It's 100% organic and is safe for all fish. Plus the good thing it doesn't contain any dyes that will turn your water blue or stain your hands or clothes if you happen to spill any.
