Around his middle body-seen from both sides, it's red and there's some white fuzz. I'm already treating the tank w/ MelaFix, since some new fish seem to have some fungal issues. I redid that tank on Tuesday, pulled everything out and planted. I know a piece of slate came 'unglued' and fell back in the tank, but I thought it didn't hit anything...now I'm thinking it hit him. (I had 2 cories I couldn't catch, so I was getting everything else out of the tank). My main question, though, is if it is a bruise, what is the best thing I can do? He's pretty listless. And my main concern is him not eating. I feel HORRIBLE! ![]() |

Before you do anything, could you take a look at this and post the required information so we can figure out if there's anything stressing the fish out, making them more susceptable to infection. If the other fish in the tank seem ok, you may want to remove the diseased cory to a quarantine tank to treat him. With a little more info, we should have him fixed up in no time. ![]() |

All the other fish are fine, I just have 1 new swordtail that is showing signs of something fungal...which is why I'm using the MelaFix already. The 'bruise' is what concerns me the most with him. But I could be wrong. |

The melafix alone probably won't do it. I would suggest maracyn or Jungle Fungus Clear, which are both readily available. You can treat columnaris with any gram positive or broad spectrum antibiotic. It's better to treat in quarantine as the antibiotics will obliterate your beneficial bacteria, the ones that keep your tank cycled and happy. IMO it's not really necessary to treat the whole tank, as most healthy, unstressed fish should have enough resistance to the bacteria to keep it at bay on their own. WATCH for other fish showing signs of infection in the main tank, quarantining any that require treatment. Keep your quarantine tank and main tank clean throughout the treatment, as good water quality is absolutely necessary to best fight the infection. The good news: columnaris is pretty easy to treat and your cory and platy should be better in no time. Easy - Quarantine, Antibiotics and watch out for Secondary Infections. ![]() |

He was full of blood, and upon closer inspection, had some cuts on him as well. So at this point, I guess it is a non-issue. Thanks though. ![]() |
