Those floppy sacs of skin are very delicate and will catch on all sorts of things. Tank decor should be kept to a minimum with bubble eyes, and make sure you ahve things like smooth gravel, and that the filter inlet is covered with some sponge so their bubbles don't get sucked in. Having such poor vision and not being the best swimmers also makes them likely targets for other fish to pick on. Bubble eyes should really only be kept with other visually impaired goldies, like Celestials and Telescopes. An excellent article on keeping bubble eyes is here: http://www.goldfishparadise.com/viewArticle.php?articleId=21 I definitely recommend you read it, it's well written and informative. As for fixing him up, do what you can to make the tank "bubble-eye friendly", then perfect water quality is a must, and some melafix will speed healing. You can also add some aquarium salt to your tank, your fish willl appreciate it. Just follow the directions on the box. Since you have goldies, I definitely recommend checking out Goldfish Paradise It's a great site, and they people REALLY know their stuff when it comes to goldies! |

And they do tend to "pop" their eyebubble, when this happens you risk developing an infection of the eye. I myself wouldn't use salt in treatment (that's just me), but I would treat the tank with MelaFix to help prevent/treat any possible infection that might develop. If memory serves me correctly I believe the bubble will redevelop, but it will take time. Make sure your water parameters are in line.
