	Can do anything with badly bitten cichlid?
aregma Hobbyist Posts: 60 Kudos: 22 Votes: 0 Registered: 05-Mar-2004	Hey, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on what to do with an african cichlid that has been badly bitten, (bleeding, bitten fins, large portion of body bitten - making it whitish). Can I do anything to help it heal, or increase the chances of recovery? thanks!

aregma Hobbyist Posts: 60 Kudos: 22 Votes: 0 Registered: 05-Mar-2004	Bigger african cichlids . She's a 6" red zebra, and got bit by a 7" one. She is in a different tank right now and really hurt, she will not eat.

But if shes badly injured that you might think she wont make it i would get some meds for her, there are a bunch of different kinds that help heal wounds.

aregma Hobbyist Posts: 60 Kudos: 22 Votes: 0 Registered: 05-Mar-2004	She is in a large tank with a divider (she has her own space), so I would have to dose the whole tank. any recommendations on what has worked for you? All i have is melafix (which doesn't seem to do much..)

Fish Guy Mega Fish Posts: 1091 Kudos: 1254 Votes: 2 Registered: 28-Jan-2004	Melafix usually worked for me, but i only used it once, i ususally just wait it out and i have'nt lost any yet. If she starts to eat I think she will make it.

Except to give her a quick death, but give her fair time. thats a last resort.... I assume you have atleast a pair maybe more? what other fish do you have in with them and how big is the tank???? You might have to do something about the aggression there
