I found that most of my guppies had clamped fins. I tested the water and found a slight spike of NitrIte. I did 20% change of my 60 litre tank. Now, I noticed that the problem persists and that one of the guppies seem to be losing weight. There are also swordtails as well and seem to have similar symptoms. Now I have 10 betta fry which are 11 weeks old and are in different containers as well. At least they do not show any similar signs. Can anyone help?

Clamped fins are a universal sign of disease stress. What are the other symptoms in your fish?

You can go to: http://www.fishpalace.org/Disease.html to diagnose your fish.

The fish seem to be losing weight and most of the time is spent at the surface without any signs to gasp any air. I checked the water parameters and seem to be ok. What is curious is that only the guppies suffered from such effects and no other fish.

Chances are the cause is protozoan or bacterial, the guppies are small , fast respiring fish, and they will be susceptible to nitrite poisoning mostly because of their size and metabolism. That temporary stress may have been all that was required for a disease to take hold. The larger fish might not have been affected.
