I have two catfish in my 20 gallon. Last week I noticed that one of the cories was laying on its back and it was breathing. I knew it was alive so i touched it with the net. It started swimming. This whole week ive been finding it on its side but it is still alive and it eats. The nitrate was a little high and i did a water change and it went down. My ph is a little low. Can the low ph be killing it. There is nothing stange on its skin and it looks normal. Does anyone know whats wrong

well my catfish finally died yesterday, I think it was better off. It took two weeks. Its behavior was wierd. It layed on its back for two weeks or on its side and then when u tap the glass he swam. He didnt swim regularly though, he did barrel rolls to swim and swam upside down. I saw him eat a few times but not much. about an hour b 4 he died I saw him and it look like he had a little blood but in lines on his body about 4 of them. Was that an attack from a fish. He had been in there for over a year and he was fine and my other catfish still is. Does anyone know what went wrong.

6.4 is on the low end for pH. You might want to think about slowly, and I mean -slowly- raising the pH.

Also, it sounds like it could be hemorraghic septicemia, but I can't be sure without all the info. Either way, sorry for your loss, hope the rest of your fish stay healthy!
