In the thread listed above, there was some great information regarding the battle against Cottonmouth. I just lost one of my glassfish to this disease, I believe. I just figured out how to work the siphon gravel vacuum thingy. GROSS! I have been overfeeding. I feel horrible/ ![]() I have only kept my two glassfish in the 5 gallon. It's got natural, pebble rock gravel, some fake plants and seven plant bulbs - type undetermined. My tests have been very consistant until last friday when the ammonnia levels spiked to 3.0 and the alkalinity changed from 120 to 180. I should say this tank is AT WORK, so I didn't have the option to really clean it out his weekend (the building is secure). I managed to get here early and clean it out a little this morning. I vacuumed and did a 20% water change. I also took out the carbon filter from the filtration device as the above listed thread said I should refrain from using the carbon filter while treating. I added two drops Kordon Amquel Plus (which is supposed to remove nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, chloring, and chloramines). I am going to the pet store during lunch. Please tell me exactly what I should be getting to help the one little guy left! Also, any tips on really getting the water CLEAN?? I took out the carbon filter as I said and now the water seems to just be cycling aroung the junk in there! THANKS! The thread |

Sorry there have not been any responses sooner. Due to the fact that your fish are very small, it took longer for your tank to CYCLE. To learn more about the cycling process, click the link below... http://www.fishprofiles.net/faq/begin-cycling.asp The Ammonia will Drop and the Nitrites will rise, then the Nitrates will drop and your nitrates will rise.. I wouldn't recommend water changes right now, let it cycle, stop adding that chemical Amquel as it's delaying your cycle (making it longer) and feed sparingly right now. You have a few more weeks of cycling right now.. Also put the carbon back in, I'm not sure why you removed it but that's not good.. The carbon helps remove other impurities from the water and is also a place for good bacteria to grow, which will help to cycle the tank.. Once your Ammonia and Nitrites = ZERO and you have Nitrates, then your cycle is complete. Hope this is some help for you ! A complete test kit is approx $30 canadian. $15 U.S ? look for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, gh, kh. It can be a pain always driving your water tests to the fish store. Also if this is in an office, did you add de-chlorintator to the water ? The Amazon Nut... |
