One of my male guppies has dropsy (i'm pretty sure), is there anything i can do for him? and any possible diagnoses as to how he got it? Water parameters are normal (amm 0, ite 0, 20 ate, 7.2 pH). I;ve had the guppy for about 6 months now so i'm quite suprised as to how long he has survived since he was a "no quarantee" fish and him and his brothers were used to cycle both my tanks. He does show signs of dropsy, pine cone like scales, extremely fat. So whats up?

Nothing new has been added to the tank in a month...he's been displaying these symptoms for 3 days now.

There is no treatment that you can buy. Try taking him or her to your lfs in a bag and asking them what they think. My lfs took in a platy that had that and treated him wiht a special medication that they are not allowed to sell since it is so strong. Tehy might do the same for you. It is pretty fatal... Mine started getting better(we went ot vistit him) but then karked it.

Dropsy itself is the result of some other cause such as a bacterial infection , parasites,or even tumors.Dropsy is the internal swelling of the fish caused by fluid build up within the fish's body that the fish can not expel which in turn cause the gills to rise.Usally by the time this happens it has become fatal to the fish. You should definitely try to quarantine this fish in order to keep your other fish safe. At this point theres probably not a lot you can do.
