My goldies don't look good. To make a long story short: My goldfish are not doing well. 3 OF THE 6 sit on the bottom of the tank.... 90 gallon tank (tank set up for about 3 years). Water parameters are all normal (pH=7.6, temp=74, ammonia=0, Nitrates=10ppm and Nitrites=0). I treated with Medi-Koi for a week. Some improvement. I thought maybe they were just sedentary after 3 or so years....?? Two days ago I drained about 40% of the water and planted a lot of plants in the tank (I mention this because this may have something to do with this?? Plant package from a reputable dealer - Aquatic Plant Depot). I did not bleach the plants.... (NEWBIE Aquascaper! I had noooo idea! They said to go ahead and start palnting - besides, symptoms started before I planted - of course, I probably made it worse by planting in the first place and stressing them out) but since I started with Prazi yesterday, I am afraid of moving things around again and stressing everybody even worse! Anyway, yesterday morning they spawned like crazy (laid eggs everywhere!) and then went listless. More goldies laying on the bottom of the tank. I got very nervous and treated wiht Prazi. Today, not much improvement either. I put everybody on Medi-Koi again, just in case. Can I add salt again, even with the Prazi I added last night?? How much for my 90 gallon tank?? ANY IDEAS?? PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME!! Patty |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() ![]() | OK Patty, do this... 1. do a 30-40% water change, do it now...yes, it's a lot of water, go get a python you'll love yourself for it. 2. raise the temperature on the tank just a tad...76*, do this over a small time period, but don't suddenly bounce the temp, then you'll get more stressed and ich fish. 3. Get some green peas (frozen are best) defrost a few maybe a dozen till they are mushy. Squeeze them into the fish tank popping the peas out of their skin. 4. Wait and relax all will be fine... 5. Note down anything else that might seem wrong, look at them carefully, do you see anything odd, other than sitting in the bottom of the tank? Have you recently had a weather change? With the water change we will be removing and diluting the medicine. Raising the temp in the tank often leads them to be more active. If they are constipated, the peas will clear them of that, and they do love peas. Give this a few days see if anything changes and keep us up to date...no more meds for now...Heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |

I did when all this started, but that was about 10 days ago. should I hold off and just let them be for the time being?? I was waiting on somebody to tell me how much to add (teaspoons) and in what time intervals. I've also been told to get the plants out and bleach them. I'd hate to do that and stress the fish even more!! Please, help me. I don't want to lose my precious fish! They are beautiful....!!! I've had them for a long time too... Patty*** |

Patty, you have to do some figuring here. As I mentioned in your last post, we don't have the information. If you need help figuring the salt dosage we can help you. But give us the following, in list form. Copy and paste: Tank Size: Last amount of salt added (in Tbsp): Amount of water changed out since salt added: How many days does the Medi-Koi say to treat? Does it say 7-14 days? Or, does it say 10-14. Don't start and stop. Once you drop any of those pellets in the tank you are committed until the end of the treatment period. Otherwise you risk developing a resistant strain of something. Last edited by Cory_Di at 27-Jan-2005 21:37 |

I have 6 blackmoores and/or telescope eyes (rather large, 8+ inches) + 1 large pl*co (7 inches). -Water parameters: pH=7.4; Ammonia=0; Nitrates=10ppm; Nitrites=0ppm; Temp=74 How's that?? Please follow their instructions. The plants won't tolerate all the salt that they are recommending and will rot anyway, so removing them is good. They are recommending that salt solution that would cover most costia infections or other parasites. You have done two water changes since adding 10 Tbsp of salt and together they equaled 70%. Is this correct? If so, lets assume that roughly no more than 3Tbsp are in the tank at this time and at best 4 Tbsp. Sound right? I like the fact that the one individual provided you with a measure in cups. Hopefully he was talking about rock type salt. Now. you can still use the method I described. It will dissolve slower than 1/3 every 12 hours and there's nothing wrong with that. One person mentioned that 30 Tbsp (1/3 of your dose) is roughly 2 cups. Use that measure if you have the rock type. If you want to use the 1/3 every 12 hours, then simply take an empty jug of some type and put the salt in. Add a drop of dechlorinator, some hot tap water, cap it and shake. Let it sit an hour and shake again. It will be darn close to being dissolved. Pick either method. However, DO NOT sprinkle it in the tank as the one suggested. This can cause severe burns. It must be predissolved or dissolved in a container. See the pics I posted in your other thread. As for the existing salt in your tank I would either ignore it or subtract 4 Tbsp from your mixture. Last edited by Cory_Di at 27-Jan-2005 21:58 |

I, pretty much, started from zero (except for some of the water which saved my good bacteria) and I also kept a few plastic plants for the same reason. Shortly after, I purchased MelaFix and PimaFix. They seem to be doing really well. ![]() I too, have a soft side for goldfish. I've had these for three years and I was so upset!:%) Very few people understand how anybody can get so attached to "simple fish" but they each have their own personalities: each of my goldies has a name! ![]() Thanks for asking!!!
