I have a 29 gal tank. nitrate and nitrite levels are all within the normal range. About 5 days ago one of my male rams developed eye cloud and started emitting a whitish string of poo. My other fish (2 more rams, 3 guppies, 4 black skirts, paradise fish, and otocinclus) are acting fine other than one other ram having whitish poo. I have been treating with Jungle parasite clear and fungus clear. Nothing major has been improving and he is still hiding in the corner. What can I do?

I've got a fever... and the only prescription... is more cowbell!

White poop, especially if it is stringy/slimey can be brought on by parasites. However, an internal infection can also disrupt the digestion process and cause white poop. If you have Parasite Clear Tank Buddies WITH Praziquantel listed in the ingredients on the box, it should have cleared them in one dose. Check if you still have the box. Jungle reformulated it, but did not change the box and the old ingredients were not as effetive. The only way to see if you had old stock is to check the ingredients.

Look these fish over carefully, especially near the base of the fins. Do you see redness that should not be there (spots, dots, streaks). Look at the belly, as well.

Are they interested in feeding at all? If so, consider a round of Jungle Anti-Bacteria, which is available at Petsmart, if you are in the USA (no flag showing). It will be more widely available according to Jungle at the end of this month.

Jungle also makes an anti-parasite medicated food. But I would make sure these guys didn't get an infection either from parasites or anything else first. They cloudy eye seems more inline with an infection, but there are also eye flukes that they just end up having to live with as there isn't really a good treatment for them.

Water quality can also cause cloudy eye. Chlorine can bring it on, as can ammonia. Not sure about nitrite. pH in a bad range too. When you say normal range, what does this mean? If ammonia and nitrite are anything but zero, then it is not normal or acceptable. some fish burn easy. The eyecloud clears within a couple weeks of eliminating the irritant in these cases
