I had introduced two neon swordtails to my tank about a week and a half ago. Unfortunately, they both showed signs of ich and fungus a few days after I got them. I would have treated, but I had to leave on a week-long retreat and I couldn't give the instructions to my family, so I just prayed they'd make it through.

When I came back, the male seemed to have made a recovery. However, the female swordtail has only continued to get worse. Her tail has rotted down to the base so that it now appears split and she has an open sore on her side. The only other symptom I have seen in over the week and a half that they've been in the tank is one spot has recently appeared on one of my pristella tetras, other than that they seem fine.

Should I put the neon swordtail down? I think she's only going to continue to get worse and worse, and I still feel bad about the male swordtail that lived the last month of his life with his sword gone looking dead most of the time at the bottom of the tank. I'm also worried that maybe she contracted something that needs to be gotten rid of immediately.

The sooner the better...

The whole tank must be treated for ich.

I put her down in ice water. May she rest in peace...

I hate having to take apart my fluval filter to get at the charcoal, but it's done now. I put in some Rid-Ich.

It's really frustrating, because I had to remove my gourami for a timeout just for her, and now she's not even going to enjoy it Meh, at least I'll get a refund.
