Hi,

I'm very new at the whole fish thing, but really enjoy having them. Unfortunately, my poor goldies all have a bad case of fin/tail rot. I have 10 of them, and believe they got it from a pleco i added to the tank, who died almost right after being purchased. now looking back and had a whitish coating on him. I'm not sure if this is possible, but soon after the fish started getting white spots on the tail. When i called the pet store they informed me that it was ick, so i've been treating them for that for the past four days. They only seemed to be worsening, and me being new did not really know what else to do. Now i've started noticing that their fins and tails are basically gone.. and after calling the pet store, once again they said it was ick, but after researching on line i'm pretty positive that it is fin and tail rot. It is white furry looking stuff that is eating away the fins and tails. I'm so sad about the poor little guys. One of them is even floating on his side now due to lack of tail and one of his fins. Please help me. What do you think is the best treatment for them. They are in an outdoor koi pond that is about 32 gallons, they are all still little guys about an 1" to 1 1/2". should i treat the pond water with anything. i have a pump going that is recirculating the water about 1x an hour, and i've been doing water changes every few days as well as scooping out as much of their waste as possible. do you think i should take them out of the pond and treat all of them?? some are very much worse than others. for the time being i've taken four of them out who seem really bad and have them in a 5 gallon bucket. what do you think is the method of treatment for them?? I really appreciate your help, and really hope these guys survive. do you think their tails and fins will grow back? Thank you.
