Joe Potato Fish Addict Kind of a Big Deal Posts: 869 Votes: 309 Registered: 09-Jan-2001 | Could be a couple things. Firstly, though, you're not going to get many good answers in the Plant Forum. I'll PM a mod to see if we can get it moved to Hospital. For a fish to die that quickly, it is usually some kind of shock, be it pH or temp or some other parameter. Even if your pH is right where it needs to be for the fish, if it is significantly different that the water at the LFS, the sudden change could kill your fish. Same with temperature. This is why it is always recommended to acclimate fish over a period of time. Did you acclimate them? Barring acclimation issues, it's probably something in the chemistry. Can you give us your tank readings for temperature, pH, NH3, NO2, NO3? Also, GH and KH if you have them. Final note: did you notice any weird discoloration in the fish? Edit: I just noticed that you said you specifically added rainbows (what species?), but you only said that five of your fish had died. Were all the fish that died your new rainbows or were they fish already in the tank? Speaking of which, what else (if anything) is in the tank? Give us a full layout -- size, inhabitants, filtration, and all that -- if you would, please. |

How did you introduce them to the tank? I would also contact the LFS where you bought them to see if they had any problem with them. Finally did you feed them as soon as the went into the tank? Many years ago I was told never to feed the tank for at least 12 hrs after introducing fish. Apparently it has to to with the stress factor and being able to digest the food. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Then copy & paste the direct link to the picture here using the [ link] URL [/ link] tags (the link button in the message editor area here on FP will do this automatically for you if you highlight the text then press the button). The picture won't display in your post, that's a premie member perk, but the link will and people will be able to look at it that way. G_T Never be afraid to try something new.
