Perhaps it's the pH? It's about 7.8-7.9 (stable) at my house, but I know betta's typically with thrive better in lower pH. They are in their own decently sized bowls, not in tanks. Thusly they have no heaters or filtration. I take care of their water properly, clean the bowls as often as needed yadda yadda... Specially one of my poor veil tails, as I watch him attack the thermometer he seems to always have a case of fin rot! Temp stays at about 77 degrees.... Should I try lowering their pH with their water changes... hmmm. Just looking for more idea's that I haven't tried yet, besides the typical. |

I had CHRONIC problems with finrot & fungus until, as kitty's suggested, I started using salt. Mine all now get .5 teaspoons of salt per gallon ![]() More directly, to kick the finrot, medications like "Multi-Cure" which contain Methaline Blue, Malachite Green & Acryflavine seem to do the best job IME. hth |
