Sorry for the lengthy read.

My girlfriend has two fancy goldfish in a 30 gallon tank.
She doesn't have a water test kit and currently they are on rid ich +. The tank has been setup for 2 weeks and she didn't want to do a fishless cycle, so she got 2 fancy goldfish and wants to keep them.

Anyway here is the situation. The fish are being treated for ich for almost a week now so that means a water change every 24 hours, so I can't really test the water with my kit. But now that we have the ich undercontrol, we are seeing some shiny spots on them and now I'm wondering if this is another parasite? Can a fish be afflicted with multiple parasites? They have somewhat of a gold sparkle on some parts of their body. Like one has it on the caudal fin and the other has it on the dorsal fin. Velvet I believe it is called. Anyway, I was wondering after changing the water tomorrow afternoon, can I toss in a copper penny or two to help for now until the medicine is obtained?. The water temperature has been raised to 86 F to help increase the lifecycle of ich. Any suggestions and/or help is really appreciated.

First off, two fancy goldfish will need a larger tank. Have her read some of the posts over in coldwater.

Yes, the stress from the cycle can cause a number of problems, Ich IMO being one of the most common. here is an article about velvet. I don't know if rid ich + will work for it, I do know that maracide will work for both ich and velvet.
