My opinion is that it's :

Guppy bacterial fin rot. All fish should be quarantined before adding to main tank when you get them to prevent spreading of such things to other fish in the future.

I have watched a guppy go from fine to dead in 24 hours... at first you look at its tail and swear you see a spot where some color was missing.. " was it there before?" you wonder. 8 hours later half the color in the tail is missing, no doubt about it. Another 8 hours and the tail is stringy...you go to bed, wake up in the morning and it's dead.

Either that or every single guppy starts to get small patches of white all over their body, and next thing you know you have white splotchy guppies that are dying by the dozens.

Maybe it's just me, but guppies seem particularly susceptible to certain bacteria strains. The only way to treat your fish is with vigorous antibiotics. I'd suggest Maracyn Plus or some other 2 in 1 wide spectrum antibiotic combo. Vigorous, decisive, kick it in the butt antibiotics, not " melafix" or something. If your other guppies haven't shown any symptoms, treating now may prevent the inevitable.

Sounds like guppy disease to me. That occurs because fancy guppies are so badly inbred.
Guppy disease occurs as tiny white spots in the muscle tissue, and often occurs at the same time as bacterial fin rot. There is no cure for sure for guppy disease, but a broad spectrum anti biotic may help.
The best solution to these problems, is a quarantine tank, where new fish go. After having a recent mass die off of guppies after introducing a couple of new ones, I definetly wont put a fish into my tank unquarantined again.

The only antibiotic I've used in that situation is Maracyn Plus with any success. It arrested the development, and within five days all remaining guppies looked normal.

The first bacterial problem I mentioned, with the tail losing color and becoming stringy, etc, appears to me to be mostly contained to just the guppies, whereas the white, splotchy bacterial problem is more tank wide. A quick response with antibiotics will probably not save guppies that are already infected, or in the tail has lost all color or is stringy category. It may prevent the other guppies from being affected, however.

The bacterial infection that causes the white splotches is easier to treat, in my experience. Quck antibiotics usually limit the deaths and spread, and there is a greater possiblity of complete halt and reversal. Also, there is a greater chance of living out a normal life in the aftermath.

I would go ahead with the antibiotics, keeping a good eye on your cories, but I don't expect any difficulties with them.

The most important lesson in this :

Set up a quarantine tank. This is a tank that is seperate from your main tank. It should be cycled, or you should have a way of cyling it quickly enough to accept new fish before you bring them home. The new fish should be acclimated to the quarantine tank and monitored ( meaning, watched, noting any irregular markings, bumps, coloration, behavior, etc), for as long as it takes to be sure you aren't introducing parasites, fungus or bacterial infections, and other assorted nasties to your fish you already have. Some suggest two weeks as a minimum, but a month or two would be that much better.

When I first started the hobby, I killed a ten gallon tank full of guppies by adding a guppy straight from the lfs into the tank. It's a hard lesson, but one worth learning.
