![]() | Guppy with dropsy |
kelso![]() Fingerling Posts: 43 Kudos: 34 Votes: 0 Registered: 01-Sep-2004 ![]() ![]() | The strangest thing has happened, my guppy no longer has pine coned scales and he isn't as fat as he was before. Is he recovering from dropsy? or am i imagining things? Since my last post, i have moved him and my other 3 guppies into the 5 gallon tank as my redtailed shark was picking on them and nipping their fins. They are all alone in this tank except for a sick zebra danio who i don't know what kind of sickness she has. Anyways could these new conditions be helpful to my guppy and maybe"cure" him? I have not treated the tank with anything and the parameters are good. |

If he was actually pineconing, then it surely sounds like he had dropsy. There could be something different between the two tanks that isn't obvious. Have you compared actual numbers? What are the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH of the two tanks? What about salt? Is there salt in the main tank and not in the 5 gal or vice versa? |

Amm is 0 in both tanks, nitrite is 0 in both tanks, nitrate varies a bit in both tanks and the ph is roughly the same at 7.2. I've noticed that he is pooping alot more then he was in the main tank, lol if that helps. Um...i can't really think of anyhting else to say but he is swimming around normally with the other guppies and chasing them around. If you need anymore info i'll glad give it to you. |

Guppies have a funny way of failing, then bouncing back. I have a 2+ year old Green Cobra who eats so much he looks like he's going to bust. I've had several close calls figuring he was dying on me. He almost got euthanized once, but I decided to keep trying - that was almost 2 years ago. ![]() Recently, I found him laying on the gravel alot and exhausted. I looked at his long tail fin and noticed it had gotten infected. Some of the other fish pic on him now and then. I had this stuff called Dip-Away. It is for external infections, fungus and parasites. It's at the bottom of this page: [link=http://www.aquatronicsonline.com/product/product1.htm]http://www.aquatronicsonline.com/product/product1.htm" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link] I couldn't believe how he regenerated after two quick dips in the solution. The tail looked different the moment I put him back into the tank and he was no longer laying on the gravel. I repeated it the next day while adding melafix and Pimafix to the tank. He fully recovered. I think the high dose of salt kicked him up. |
