I have not seen any products from Tetra like that. However, Hikari just released this recently: [link=http://www.uskoi.com/prazipro.htm]http://www.uskoi.com/prazipro.htm" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link] Many countries carry Hikari so lets hope you can find it. Great stuff and very safe!! I know Jungle is only marketed in North America at this time. I'm not aware of any other manufacturers using Praziquantel, but that's not to say that other common manufacturers in other countries aren't looking into it like King British, or Tetra in response to Jungle and Hikari. |

I don't think overstocking is a problem since all the fish are very small (even the pleco is less than 3 inches and the angelfish no more than 4 from top to bottom). But I do intend to give away a few guppies in the next days anyway. Cory_Di: There were no blood pin points or streaks on the belly on any dead fish. There hasn't been any power failure that would cause the filter to stop. It is an inside filter with spoonge, ceramics etc. Is there a specific product from one of the known brands (Tetra, tropical etc) that contain Praziquantel you mentioned in your post? jester_fu: I use water tests from Tetra which gave me the numbers I wrote in the first post. I've also use tests from other brands which didn't have any differences. Thanks a lot! |

I believe it is the Nitrates that are at 10 and maybe the poster can confirm that for us. |

NH3 is Ammonia, NH4 Ammonium and NH2 is some sort of amino. If your NH3 is 10ppm, then your fish are dying from Ammonia poisoning. As has already been suggested - reduce your fish stock. The second thing would be to increase the regularity of your water changes. Until you get and Nitrate (NO3) and Nitrite (NO2) test results, i suggest you start doing 10% water changes DAILY. This will quickly dilute the concentrations of harmful chemicals in the tank, and will also most likely destroy your cycle (if there is one at NH3 = 10ppm!). If those results are for NO3 and NO2 and it's just a typo, then i still think something is wrong with you test kits an water parameters. There's just no way i could imagine that amount of fish in that small a tank without higher readings of Nitrates and Nitrites on 2 weekly water changes... |

That's lots of fish for that tank, especially with Plecos. Thanks for posting parameters. I mistakenly thought your nitrites were high, but that is the nitrate at 10ppm. The tank seems overstocked and plecs, unless they are the smaller species like bristlenose, can get very big. Livebearers keep reproducing making it even more stocked. Even with parameters in good shape, overcrowding can stress fish. If all the fish that die have rapid breathing and lay on the gravel or hang out at the surface, then it is possible they have flukes. I don't know what is available in Greece for that so you may want to check with your fish store. In the US we try to use products with Praziquantel. This is a common dog dewormer which is often sold under the name of droncit. But now they are making it available in over-the-counter fish meds here in the US. Otherwise, you'll have to rely on your fish store to make a recommendation. If you have scaleless fish in the tank yet, then ask if you should dose it at half strength. Another thought is that there may be an infection in your tank. Have any fish shown blood pin points at the ba Have you lost power to your filter for any length of time - even 30 minutes? What kind of filter do you have? Is it a hang on the back or is it under the gravel? Or, is it a cannister? Last edited by Cory_Di at 21-Mar-2005 15:56 |
