Had-A-Snail

I did a Google on that exact phrase and some info came up you might find something useful there.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Hi,
"Had a Snail" does not say "Had an Ich." I found only
one site that said you could use this to eliminate Ich,
and then it prescribed the same dosage that one should
use for eliminating snails. I found several sites that
said it did not work and that all it did was drive the
snails up the sides of the tank to the edges of the water
where they could easily be scooped off.

Also, there is a warning not to use it in water with a
GH under 32ppm.

If your tank has Ich, I suggest that you purchase a
medication specifically for eliminating Ich.

Thanks all, I used the Had-A-Snail because I had it and there was some evidence that it would work. However since I live an hour away from any fish store or pet store, I will make the journey today to get some proper stuff.

OK, I went to my LFS (1 Hour Drive!) And got an Ick specific med... and a bottle of Melafix to have on hand. We dosed the tank about 2hrs ago, so we'll see what's going on in the morning. Hopefully the white spots are gone.

it'll take more than a morning to rid ich

I say at least a week or two medicating, as little light as possible and a nice clean tank should do it

and a higher tank temp can help... might want someone else to give you some more specific info

As CrimsonaX said, it'll take at least a week to fully be rid of the ich. In fact, when the ich parasite is a cyst (those little white spots), the medication can't kill them. The medication will only work on the ich organisms in the water. Eventually, all the cysts will burst and release more into the water. As a result, you have to keep treating until all the spots are gone and a day or two after just to make sure you get everything.

Yea,
That had a snail stuff is only copper anyway, highly toxic. Don't forget to follow directions on the ich bottle. It is very tempting to overmedicate which would mean certain death. Also, make sure to do 25 percent water changes like the label on the ich meds state.
