![]() | Ich treatment questions |
bscal![]() Hobbyist Posts: 116 Kudos: 120 Votes: 5 Registered: 10-Jun-2004 ![]() ![]() | Okay, I have Ich in my 55gal and will begin treatment tonight. But first I have a few questions... ba Second, do I need to do a water change before beginning treatment (nitrAtes are a bit high)? And lastly, can I remove my mystery snail to another tank (I have an unoccupied 5gal) while treating the tank? Also, if I should remove the snail how long do I need to wait after treatment is done before I replace the snail. Thanks a bunch. Oh, and just to ward off the inevitable questions: 55 gal with a Fluval 440 Ammonia-0, NitrIte-0, NitrAte-60 Medium-heavy planted 6 albino cories 3 ottos 5 harlequin rasboras 1 gold gourami 2 blue dwarf gouramis 3 adult platies (& some babies) -Beth |

I did not remove my carbon from the filter, so i think this may be the problem. I noticed that you didn't say anything about removing your carbon, so i thought i'd remind you. I have an apple snail too, and i moved her to a different tank. I think you can put her back in once treatment is done, you've done a little water change, and have let the water filter through carbon for a day. That's what someone wrote on applesnail.net. Good luck, hopefully your's will be better than mine. littletank |

I would say run it for about a week or 2 to fully remove all the meds, while doing water changes to weaken the med. And for treatment, dose at half strength because of your cories. |

I would probably do about a 20 to 30% water change not only to bring down the nitrate levels but also maybe to get rid of some ick spores that are possibly in your gravel. Make sure you treat the tank for the full time recommended. As far as the snail goes Am sorry I can't help you there, but I would probably remove it to be on the safe side. |
