I have two fairly large oscars in a 55 gallon tank. We added some new rocks and the oscars seem to love them, however when we put the feeder fish in for them, they get so aggressive when feeding that they run into the rocks and it peels their scales off, leaving a greay area exposed. I removed the rocks, but I am worried that their injuries will get infected. Waht can I do to prevent the wounds from getting infected?

You can add some Melafix to the tank. It can help w/ infections, disease and the like if used properly.

the first thing is to treat with melafix i think that is the one for injuries. but i would wait for some one else to confirm it. but there is a bigger problem with the tank than that as 2 oscars need at least bare minimum 75g and that is pushing it. you have two choices for them either upgrade tank size or get rid of one. but a oscar would be a lot better in a 75. because they can get bigger than 12in and they need room to turn around and the 55g doesn't give them that room. so if you can do it i would get a 125g. if i sound mean sorry but im just trying give you the facts. and sometimes the truth hurts. also you need to reconsider feeding them feeder fish. if there the cheap ones from the store. but thats a whole nother post

The Oscars will regrow scales with no further intervention...

As long as your water quality is excellent there's not much chance of infection.

As mentioned, a larger tank is required for Oscars, especially when they become large specimens. You'll probably develope a waste issue in your 55 gallon from large Oscars causing a severe water quality problem.
