My platy seems to be missing a pelvic fin and the bottom corner of her tail fin, also it looks like she may have a small sore on her side. None of the effected areas look fuzzy. Also I should let you know that I'm in the cycling stage of my 75 gallon tank, I started with 6 but now I only have her (A ph problem I think)They all lived together for about 4 days. Are platys know to nip at each other? I also have aquarium salt in the water, and melafix on hand.

Do you have water tests handy?

This fish IME are a bit nippy, also IME I have never seen a bad sore from the slight nipping.

Also is there another tankmate with him/her???? Could it maybe be battle wounds???

Melafix won't hurt anything, although in itself I've not had any success with it in treating bacterial finrot.

These fish are cycling the tank? Can you provide us with ammonia nitrIte and nitrAte numbers. While not super delicate I'm not sure platies would be my first choice for cycling a tank.

There are no tank mates right now, and yes i have been testing my water. Yesterday I tested my ammonia and nitrites, my ammonia was 1 ppm and there were no nitrites present. I then did a 25% water change. I have also been using Stability in the water. The sore on her side is really hard to notice, but it definitly doesn't look right. It's not hugh or anything it just looks weird to me. I have been keeping a close eye on her and it doesn't appear to be getting any worse....how long do fins take to grow back approx.?

Mia,

Fins that are damaged, in what seems good conditions in your tank, should heal very quick. Do you use stress coat or something for the skin of the fish??

I use "Aqua plus" to remove chlorine and to protect scales and fins, I also use aquarium salt, her pelvic fin looks like it is growing back, but her tail looks the same, which I guess is better then worse. Is there something that anyone recomends to heal/protect fins?
