Hi Everyone,

I emailed Jungle today to find out if it was alright to combine their medicated foods:

Jungle Anti-Parasite Medicated Food with:
Jungle Anti-Bacteria Medicated Food

At the same time, I asked if the Medicated Food could be dosed with their waterborne meds like Fungus Clear, or any other meds that they sell.

The response to both of these are below. The medicated foods are new and were only available in Petsmart. I have since seen them in other stores. They are also available at Petsmart.com. It is my understanding that Canada would be carrying these. At this time, they are not marketed outside of N. America.

In cases of serious or stubborn bacterial infections, such medicated foods would be best for three reasons: 1) Oral antibiotic, especially milled in, is more effective than water treatment for many infections. 2)It does not affect the biological filter and foul the water. 3) Covers potentially deadly secondary infections that quickly follow those external infections, or parasite bites.

The specific example I was referring to when I emailed them was gourami ulcers, which can be difficult to treat. No doubt a waterborne med like Fungus Clear would help, but could it be combined with their food for a better chance at killing such a stubborn infection?

As a sidenote, I encourage people to visit Jungle's website to make such inquiries when there are questions about the meds. They are always very prompt with their responses. Just use, "Contact the Lab"

Here is the response:

Hello, Diane

Thank you for your inquiry about Jungle(r) products. We are happy that
you have chosen our products to use in your aquarium to help you
maintain the best possible environment for your fish and plants.

The Jungle medicated fish food and our water medications can be used
together. You can also use Parasite and Bacterial Medicated Fish food
together. So if you are treating for an ulcer I would use the Fungus
Clear or Fungus Eliminator with the Anti-Bacterial Medicated Fish Food.

Thank you for being a Jungle(r) customer. If you have any problems or
need any other information, please do not hesitate to call our Customer
Service Representatives at 1-800-357-7104 or e-mail us at
info@junglelabs.com. And don't forget to check out Club Jungle at
www.clubjungle.com. Check back regularly for tips and free samples!

Sincerely,

Cassandra Barton

Thanks Di, that is very helpful. Good to know they can both be used at once, I am a big fan of dosing internally, and am very happy that an antibiotic food has finally been released for tropical fish. The fact that it can be dosed safely with other Jungle products makes it even better.

Well, Jungle has certainly raised the bar for fish treatment. Tetra use to make a medicated flake, then stopped. Sales of the medicated food is going to impact sales of meds by other companies. I'm going to predict that we will be seeing more medicated food within the next year or so.

What is nice about this food is that it can be fed to larger fish, or crushed down for smaller fish.

Very good to know, especially since it'll be so easily available in LCPS's.

I think I have access to @least 4 within a few minutes drive from any job or from my house .

As a side note, when using antibacterial foods, there's no harm to the biofilter even from waste food or from uneaten foods

I wouldn't expect to see much waste, unless someone was really overfeeding. I would only feed what they could eat, then add more. Also, it can be crushed and sunk for bottom feeders, but that is best done at a time when you know they will be feeding.
