What is the active ingredient in AP-Plus? The active ingredients in Maroxy are aimed mainly at True Fungus, but can work somewhat against bacterial infections. However, there are better products for bacterial infections than Maroxy. Also, if you have sensitive fish like catfish or inverts, that needs to be taken into consideration as well. |

If an infection is a true fungus, for example, it must be treated differently than if it is a bacteria that looks like fungus. Maroxy is better for the first, and Maracyn (erythromycin) is better for the second. Neither is safe for larval stage fry or young fry. At the larval stage, you can severely damage them with deformaties or kill them with some of those ingredients and formalin should be used with extreme caution. It is a form of formaldehyde wh which is a gas and it depletes oxygen in the tank (not to mention it is a known carcinogen). Even an egg la Jungle Labs has a team of people ready and waiting to answer questions. If you were to go to www.junglelabs.com (use Contact the Lab) and tell them what concerns you have with breeding and fry, they can tell you which products would be good to use. I had goldfish fry and wanted to use some products and they told me what was safe and not safe for egglaying fry and, at what stage. Jungle is good for 24-48 hour returns (business days) on their email. However, I must tell you, that there is no better preventative than better-than-pristine water quality with fry, and consistent temps. This may mean twice daily water changes (small water changes). If Betta Fry are what you are after, then consider making a post in the Advanced Betta forum here. If you've had a bad experience in the past with breeding and losses, talk about it there and you'll get some recommendations. I hope this helps. Again, I would not use either with Fry. Methylene Blue is about the only thing that I think can be used early to prevent unfertilized egg fungus to spread to fertilized eggs. But Methylene Blue truly needs to be used as a preventative. It is not as effective for battling fungus. EDIT: You can find good, detailed breeding and fry care info here. http://www.bettatalk.com/ Last edited by Cory_Di at 09-Dec-2004 05:44 |

The main reason I got the meds was because Ive heard of a lot of people having problems with their fry. So I wanted to be on the safe side and not have my fry die on me because of a small thing. I will check out the junglelabs.com, and bettatalk.com is usually the place I go if I need some other information Thanks! |

And, when to begin water changes, etc. It is simply not worth the grief of learning by watching a large batch of fry die needlessly and it can happen so easily unless you are well informed before you start. Good luck ![]() Last edited by Cory_Di at 09-Dec-2004 17:08 |
