I've got a cory with what seems like an infection in my tank. It was sick when I bought it, though it wasn't showing any symptoms at the time. Anyways, I just purchased some Melafix and Pimafix the other day, and I want to treat this fish. I know that cories are more sensitive to meds than other fish, so how much of either (or both) medicines should I add? Do I just halve the dose, and use Melafix? That was my first thought, but I am not quite sure.

I have used full strength Melafix and Pimafix in my 20 gallon long after some of my white clouds decided to get terratorial. I hadn't noticed the damage they had done to each other. I have 3 agasizzi cories and 6 habrosus cories in the tank. I had heard that habrosus were sensitive. However, they tolerated the full strength cocktail very well, and I might add, they are still young and not fully grown.

If you are nervous about using full strength, introduce them slowly to the "taste". Do half strength in the or PM, then do the other half 12 hours later. See how they tolerate that. Make sure activated carbon is out of the filter.

What is this "infection" looking like? Is it a filmy or fuzzy one, or is it an ulcer/lesion type? In either case, I would add a small amount of freshwater aquarium salt, predissolved to help him with electrolytes lost. I predissolve just under 1/2 dose (1 level Tbsp/5 gallons). Then, I either dribble in a little at a time over a day or two (depending on sensitivity), or I put it in a tiny, disposable Glad container with poked holes and sink it. The salt dissolves much slower yet with this method. It works best with the rock type freshwtaer aquarium salt.

It is kind of fuzzy looking, located on the base of this cory's caudal fin. I noticed it two days after I bought the fish. It probably stemmed from a scratch or cut obtained during capture or unloading.

Aquarium salt? I've always heard that cories are particularly sensitive to that as well, and I don't want to make things worse.

Oh, just so you know, the tankmates are:
1 German ram
1 bristlenose
7 lemon tetras
5 longnosed cories (including the sick one)
