Hi LP welcome to the forums...

First thing you need to do is take a sample of your water to the lfs...just get a small ziplock bag, and put about 1/4 - 1/2 cup of water...it really doesn't take a whole lotand take it to the lfs they will test the water for you, have them write down there findings, that way you can tell us what they are

Now with that said, have you by chance sprayed anything in or around the tank? I know it sounds funny, but the aerosals seem to have a way of settling right into the tank:%)and thus it unintentionally poisons our little fishies

For now I'd go ahead and do a 30% water change....this will help remove any contaminants that might be in the tank, as well as lessen the quantities of ammonia or what have you if the tank is cycling...You, did say that the tank had been set up only about 2 months, correct? Do you know if it had completed cycling? That in itself could be your problem...and if so it's an easy solution, just keep up with small water changes 10% or so 3x a week, and keep track of the water parameters, if they get high then do another small water change....this is going to make cycling take longer, but you will get through this

I'm also fond of using a product that helps speed up the development of the necessary bacteria to complete the nitrogen cycle. Be patient don't give up, we all have trouble with our tanks from time to time, even the best and most experienced...

best of luck, heidi
