![]() | Neon Tetra turning black, Help Please! |
littlepebble![]() Hobbyist Posts: 83 Kudos: 48 Votes: 0 Registered: 20-Oct-2003 ![]() ![]() | Hi all, I recently lost 1 neon tetra whose skin has turned black. The black patches have slowly taken over the silver and blue colour of the neon and the poor neon slowly wasted away eventually. Recently, I saw all my neons have black patches on their skin, I fear they might all end up dying. What is happenning? I did water test, No Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. Is this some kind of disease? If so, what should I do to help my neons? All help will be much appreciated. |

Are your fish eating properly? I mean, are they eating their food, not just mouthing it and spitting it back out? I know that fish with internal parasites will often starve to death, and as they do, they lose their color and turn greyish black - their flesh is literally dying. Check to see if their eating behavior is normal. If you don't see them swallowing their food and holding it down (watch them for a few minutes while they eat to make certain), then it could be likely that you're fish have internal parasites and that may be the cause of them wasting away. Check in on their behavior and get back to us - maybe it's not to late to help them ![]() |

I have strongly advised not to get any neons as they are likly to get too many diseases. The reasons I was given were the growing conditions before they are imported into Aust. I observed all my neons today, yah, they didnt seem to eat the food, basically just spit the food out . There's lack of food intake. :#( It seems like they are really slow. Is it internal parasite? I went to LFS to seek for medication for this type of sympton, they have no idea too. I then asked for medication for internal parasite and my LFS recommended AQUA MASTER-FLUKE & TAPE WORM TABLET. Cautions needs to be taken for tanks that contained cory, I was asked only to use 1/2 dose. Is this the right way to go??? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It seems to be geared towards external flukes and tapeworms (your fish may have something other than a tapeworm) Use in half doses and see if they get better. If not, as I've said, I've successfully treated fish showing the same symptoms as yours with Metronidazole. Last edited by NowherMan6 at 27-Apr-2005 12:47 |
