I just wanted to let people know that Jungle has released a set of new medicated feeds. One is Anti-Parasite
and the other is Anti-Bacteria
(note that both words are links to Petsmart where I found them, but the link colors look like my other text).

What is great about this is that these pellets can be crushed for smaller fish.

Furthermore, it is exciting to see that someone finally realized the need to have effective meds for camallanus nematodes, as well as intestinal worms, gill & skin flukes, among other. The active ingredients are the best and safest known for these conditions: Levamisol, praziquantel, and metronazidole.

The active ingredients in the anti-bacterial feed are sulfa and nitrofurazone.

Kudos to Jungle!!!

Never overuse these feeds, but you must follow directions once you start so that the bugs/parasites don't become immune.

This is far better and more effective than putting chemicals and antibiotics in the tank. Waterborne meds are not nearly as effective for internal infections/infestations as food. And, the biological filter is not hindered in the least.

"Never overuse these feeds,"...

Jungle parasite meds mention feeding on a regular routine basis.

Pepso Food, also a pelletized food, claims "cleanses all fish of parasites" and also suggests "regular maintenance dosing."

The only drawback to medicated food is the refusal of the trop to eat. There's where the water-dosing meds come into play.

Agreed - by the time we notice the symptoms, the fish is not eating.

I know what you mean about maintenance dosing. I don't believe in that. The drawback with Pepso Food is that it only contained Metronazidole for an antiparasitic. This alone just doesn't cut it. Prazi, even in the water, can expel intestinal worms in just a few hours, and levamisol can do the same for camallanus. Yet, no adverse side effects are reported for fish and even young fish and scaleless fish can be treated with the stuff.

You're right...

I don't believe in maintenance dosing either.

Pepso Food lists Nutrofurazone and Sulfathiazole as the main meds.

Do you know if Petsmart actually carries it in store of if you can only get it online. I have been looking for medicated food for over a week (have searched everywhere in a 2 hour radius) and haven't been able to find it; however, I did not check the PetSmart in that radius because I had been trying to avoid it (long story), but if they are carrrying it, I will have to drop my boycott and go for a visit.
Thanks!
Jen

I bought it at PetSmart, in the store. I was bowled-over when I saw it. It was packaged in a bottle within a plastic cover.

We can't get parasite meds here at all. I wish we could.

Light Bright, you're in Edmonton right?

For Praziquantel, check out Paradise Pets in St. Albert, they carry a product called prazi-pro. Or you can also order Jungle's Parasite Clear tabs (and just about any other meds) from http://www.mops.ca]http://www.mops.ca[/link]. You can also buy prazi pro from [link=http://www.koilagoon.com/prproheaid4.html.

I was able to purchase Clout and Fluke Tabs from Big Al's, and I never intend to use these, so if you want them let me know and I'll give them to you.

I know how hard it can be to find these meds in Canada, it took me a lot of searching to find these resources!

OH! And mops.ca also carries metro-meds and medi-gold, the premier medicated foods

I could have sworm that Parasite Clear Tank Buddies was sold in Canada

If you can get Prazi-Pro, that stuff absolutely rocks for skin/gill flukes and intestinal parasites. However, it is ineffective for camallanus. Only levamisol works for that and thus far, Anti-Parasite from Jungle is the only product I've seen the two-punch power of this med and Praziquantel together.

I was going to say that if you are close enough to a US border, come on over and stock up
