Hi Folks

One of my fish is in a bad way

I can not use a knife to put it out of her misery

I have read somewhere there is a chemical u can buy from a herbalist - a type of anestphetic - and u can overdose the fish to kindly put it to sleep

Does anyone have the name of this chemical/herbal, and how much do I use to be quick and painless

Thanks in advance

Regards

Here's the sites FAQ on [link=Euthanasia]http://www.fishprofiles.net/faq/begin-longterm.asp#death" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link]. However IME the fastes and most humane way to put a fish down is severing the spinal cord. Small fish can recieve a sharp blow to the head. One of the worst ways is to freeze a fish. Remember just because it's easy for you doesnt mean it'll be easy for your fish.
Sorry you have to go thru with it I know it's a hard thing .

Dave the rave

What is wrong with your fish that you need to put it to sleep?

I am using a different method and would like to get your oppinions on it:

I take a container (size 2 cups) and put some water in it (1/2 cup), then fill it
with ice. I let it sit for a while until the water is very cold.
Well, and then I add the fish. So far, it seems to me that the fish is struggeling
for about 5 sec max., if it was very sick to begin with then the struggle is shorter.

I read somewhere on the web about this method. Supposedly, the fish goes into
shock when added to the ice water, which is different then what happens when
you place it in the freezer and wait for the water to cool down.

Many many thanks for all of your comments

I heard that imersing the fish in "iced" water was now classed as "cruel" and painful for the fish - albeit was years ago the way to do it - your comments please!!

My local "health" shop did not know what clove oil was!! - presume a chemist has stock of this - will try tonight!

My fish is currently isolated - a three year old Molly - she has large whitish spots on her - one spot has a "feather/plume" growing from it - she is gasping and listing. Tried all the usual chemical treatments to no avail.

Thanks again

Best regards

God bless my Molly

Dave,

I feel sorry and happy for you at the same time.

I know how hard it is to part with a fish that one comes to like.
But, from your description, it seems like you did a good thing.

Your Molly swims now with with lots of other fishies in the great pond.

Regards,

Ingo
