I have been treating the ich for just under a week now, half doses due to the loaches and all seems to be going well so far. However yesterday I noticed that one of my Clown loaches has an open wound on the side of its face (looks to me like its been picked at by probably the red tail shark). Can I treat this open wound with Melafix or something while I am still treating the ich????
Can medications be mixed at all?

I will be honest I have no idea if you can mix the two medications. One is for a parasite and the other for an open infection.
It is possible that the CL received the wound from the reaction of the Ich (rubbing against a sharp object)

If you can remove the clown I would do so and treat it seperatly. You might be able to place it in a small container and treat it, leave it for a short time make sure the temperature does not drop, place it on top of the light (bottom heat) then return it back to the tank.

Also have a look at this Topic it might help you with the Ich

Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.

Thank you for that information Keith. I had actually read it before and I am positive the ich happened due to a water change, thecolder weather and the installation of a new eheim filter. It didn't help than one of the heaters in the tank broke and we aren't sure how long the water had been cooling for. So, the tank was in a bit of a mess for a while, but for the moment I am doing the best I can, doing it all as per directions. I have been adding the melafix since I noticed the wound on the loach, so hopefully I will start to see an improvement. As for now there is really only one fish still with white spot(a clown loach, but not the one with the wound)and also a white kissing gourami who doesn't have much of a tail left. Only time will tell.
