![]() | Oranda eye fell out |
carolinedraper![]() Fingerling Posts: 41 Kudos: 40 Votes: 0 Registered: 18-Apr-2005 ![]() ![]() | Hi this is wierd. All water parameters are fine most recent test yesterday morning ammonia, nitrate and nitrite not registering on the tests. PH 7. Fed fish (3 fancys) at lunchtime some blood worms. All ok. Just checked 9.30pm uk and Oranada has eye missing. Clean wound though deep. Cannot find eye anywhere. Tank mates have never shown signs of aggression. What could do this? Read somewhere TB can do this. How does a fish I have had since xmas suddenly get TB? Or if not TB what is it? |

TB will not cause eyes to fall out. The fish should be OK, will just live its life out with only one eye. If I remember right - you have several goldies? I bet one of the other goldies has a tasty eyeball treat- goldies are well known for eating other fish, or any fish part they can get their mouths on. To be fair I thought that we would lose him out of shock over night but fingers crossed he is still with us. I just feel so sorry for him. I have a theory which goes maybe him and one of the other goldfish (prob the ryukin) went for a blood worm at the same time and put little coccos eye was caught up in the middle. We are not going to add any more fish nor do we have ob Can pop eye be caused as his wen is growing as that must put a large strain on that part of the head. i would not get rid of them as I have made a committment to them, but boy o boy I would not get gold fish even fancy ones again. If its not one thing its another. |

Eyes are always the first to go in a serious fight. They are the easiest to damage and cause the opponent the most problems. Thankfully, they rarely cause a large wound and heal quickly. Just keep the socket area free from infection and it will heal up fine. The fish will just swim slightly differently to allow it to see where it it going and what it is eating.
