try feeding him peas.

It sounds like it could be a swim bladder problem, and not a stroke.

No I think its a stroke he had a terrible shock yesterday one of the cave tumbled down around him and he was trapped I don't no for how long I got him out and he seem fine but later on I noticed he was upside down and could not seem to get his self right he is still under the cave this morning upside down motionless but still breathing the other one is sitting close by looking very sad. I hope the poor boy is not suffering I would hate to think he is I think if he was and I could be sure he was I would rather put him to sleep but I don't wish to do that if I cant be sure. I will keep a close eye on him today and let you no the verdict.

Here is a pic of the poor boy. Its not a very good pic but its the best I can do in the dark. I don't want to use the flash or turn the light on because it may disturb him I think he is best left in peace.

Oh I feel so helpless. All I can do is just watch the poor boy. Its sad to see his mate as well so upset. He is still just upside down under the cave. I don't think he will get better now. I wish there was something I could do but I think all I can do is sit back and let nature take its cause I just don't have the heart to put him to sleep some how. Yet another side of me says I would rather do that than let him suffer. Can someone tell me what they would do. Put him to sleep? or let nature take its cause?

Tess, I'm so sorry you had such a horrible experience. You did a very unselfish and difficult thing and I know how heartbreaking it is.

It is very likely he severely damaged his swimbladder when he was under that cave. Just being upside down at the top indicated swim bladder problems and I know that they can be damaged by sudden blows. The poor thing must have taken a direct hit and maybe the swim bladder even filled partially with water.

An injured swim bladder can't be helped with peas as it is not caused by constipation. You did right by him.

So sorry. R.I.P. Fishy

Ah thank you Cory Di I still feel very upset at having to do such a thing but your kind words have made me feel much better thank you.

P.S. His mate is very lonely now and is always on the hunt for him so I thought I would buy him another mate do you think he will except a new mate or do you think it might upset him all the more and make him pick on the new mate. They were very close you see the two parrots and hardly ever left each others side they truly were a pair of parrots in love.

That sounds like a good post for the right forum. I don't know much about Parrot Fish. That is a cichlid, right? If so, make a post there and inquire. Certainly someone has had to deal with that very issue.

I had to euthanize a betta that wouldn't die. He was very sick for about 10 days, but was still eating. It got to the point that I had to deliver the food right down in front of him. I continued medicating hoping he would recover. But when he wouldn't take the food anymore, I had to draw the line there. That is one of my pieces of criteria. I had visions of him starving to death for another 5, 10, 15 days. It was the hardest thing I ever did and I cried my heart out as I did it. I felt guilty, but my conscious told me I did the right thing by him.
