My pictus catfish has spots all over its body, a yellowish/white spot everywhere. Im pretty sure this is white spot, but hoping this might be just how pictus's sometimes look, yea i know i might be dreaming there, but i can always wish.

What do i do? its in a community tank, should i remove it and put it into another tank and medicate it there? what are the best ways to combat it? i need to know everything and anything asap please.

cheers

ok put the pictus into a small tank, heated it to 27-28c. Put some food in there, put a towel over the emergency tank to keep it completely dark. I'm really fearing it doesn't have long left, i knew i should of looked at it more cautiously at the fish store. What should i do now?

What medicine should i be getting?

c'mon guys need some help here.

cheers

if the spots are raised off the body then yes it is white spot. does with the normal meds would my advise. having it in the high 28 temp is good cos the parasite hates that. im not experienced with pictus cats so i dont know how they will react to salt but IME using aquarium/sea salt can be extremely effective and i have used this method instead of meds many times. try one teaspoon/ 5g. but again i dont know how a pictus will react to this so research it first.

by normal med i mean things which normally contain formaldehyde but be careful using thsi with plants.

3 things i do to white spot:
temp 30 deg.
salt 1-2 teaspoon/ 5g
water change or hospital tank.

again this all depends on the fish.
sorry cant be more help

First off give us more than 4 minutes to respond to a thread .

Moving on....

Pictus are medication sensitive. Be very careful what you dose them with. I learned this after I'd already medicated a pictus with maracide. The fish pulled thru just fine...but I'm not sure I'd suggest the medication as it's not the safest ich med out there.
You should never move a fish that's showing symptoms of ich as it's present in the tank, and will effect all the fish. Additionally moving a fish will cause more stress likely causing the symptoms to be worse. Ich looks like small grains of salt. If it looks like this than it's ich, you cant really misdiagnose it. If it's larger than grains of salt then it's a different matter. Not being familar with Aust meds I cant suggest a specific one, but look for whatever is clown loach approved.
lifeofcrimeguy is right about the temperature, however increased temp should only be used once medications have been added. To actually kill ich the temp needs to be above 95F which is too extreme for most tropical fish. When adding meds and increasing temp it's very important to increase surface agitation as the higher temp will make it more difficult for the water to hold oxygen. And as always with ich, be sure that you medicate for the full time given in the directions. Stopping medication just becuse the ich "went away" means you're stopping too early. Ich is only susceptable to meds once it's fallen off the fish.
