I know she is getting up in her year(s) and will probably go to fishie heaven soon due to old age. She no longer makes babies and I've had her for at least one year now.

Lately her fins have been more clamped, other platy look great, that's why I think it is just her and not a whole tank problem.. All paramters look great, nitrate is a bit high (12) but i am changing water tonight.

Any way, the one that has me baffled is the wrinkly look of her "skin" on her head and a bit on her sides.. is this normal? is it old age? is it fungus?

Should I take her out?... all I have is a glass bowl though, no tank and I can't afford an extra tank right now. I know labyrinth fish can be put into containers w/o filtration, etc.. but can you with any fish, at least while they're sick?

Thank you for any and all thoughts and help!

I don't want to sound cruel but you can try to put her in the bowl with an air stone. If she is old she will dye soon if she is sick she will die soon soif she survives good for her but i even kill the fish touched by fungus. Most of the fish afected by fungus die anyway so...

bragesmama,
I'm not quite sure what is going on with her...What I would do is treat the tank with Melafix. It is pretty much a cure all, and has helped my fish with similar problem though I still don't know what was wrong with her...[link=melafix]http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441777336&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302030064&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1110167542237" style="COLOR: #9999ff[/link]it is truly a cure all for most problems Best of luck :88)

Darn, I finally got a closer look at her this morning while she was being still. She's got her scales pineconing just from her mouth to the top of her head.. discolored on the belly.. more yellowishy than red.. very thin.. Sounds bacterial to me and I am afraid she might not survive treatment.. but I will try!
