They've been in there for a year, and I just got the pond up and running for the season a couple of weeks ago. Today, I noticed one of the orange goldfish has what appears to be a black spot on each side of his head, on the gill plate. One looks a little bit raised, but the other looks a little pitted -- but it's hard to get a good look, and I'm resisting catching him because it will traumatize all of us. He's eating and acting completely normal and energetic. No other fish have any signs of a problem. Water temp is about 65. No ammonia or nitrites that are showing up on my test kit yet, and there are about 20 ppm of nitrate, although I'm thinking that might be in the water supply -- I don't think the pond has really been running long enough to be cycled, and I haven't been feeding very heavily. GH is 120, KH is about 80. I salted it a couple weeks ago. Aeration is via a waterfall. Any idea what might be going on? |
