Ok my new texas that i just got isn't doing good. He is the only fish in the 75g. the parameters are all good. He wasn't very good when i got him. there are a couples issues. He is very weak. He cant swim good and he is lethargic. his stomach isn't sunk in but it looks like he hasn't ate in time. what is a good food to get him some energy and weight on him. the second thing is he may have HITH but i think that the marks are just battle wounds. Im going to start melafix tonight. and tommorow im getting some metronidazole. Can you do both treatments at the same time. Please help I know its a lot.

I'm not sure on the metronidazole so i'll leave that for someone else.

A good food that most fish wont say no to are bloodworms. You should be able to buy frozen bloodworms at your lfs. What foods have you offered him? Could you find out from previous owner or lfs what they were feeding the fish? If you suspect HITH then you need to keep the water nice and clean. What are your water parameters at the moment?

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I understand the inclination to want to run out and get metronizadole, but hold off on putting in the tank just yet. Let's try another approach.

Parasite Clear Tank Buddies has both Praziquantel and Metronizadole in it, as well as acriflavine. The prazi will expel any intestinal worms in a matter of hours. Metronizadole in bath isn't as effective for internal matters, such as hexamita - it needs to be ingested. The acriflavine will help with infection, as well as protozoan infestations.

If the fish is eating, you can try to feed him the new Jungle Anti-Parasite Medicated Food. This has metronizadole, praziquantel and levamisol milled into it. You can crush to a smaller size if necessary. It may or may not be palatable enough for him to eat. This is why I feel the Parasite Clear in bath should be first as it will quickly evacuate any internal parasites.

It won't hurt to feed the fish the metronizadole while using the Parasite Clear bath.
