i have a 6 1/2 inch tiger oscar in a 75 gallon tank. all water parameters are at 0. ph 7.0, temp around 78-80. question is i noticed recently that my oscar has a bump on his bottom lip. it sorta looks like a wart or something. when he opens his mouth i can see it on the inside of his lip too. its a little bump on the inside of his lip and they outside. probably the same bump it just goes through his whole lip. anyone know what this is? is it bad? thanks

try Metro-med, which contains the anti-parasitic metronazidole and an anti-biotic [possibly tetracycline-- can't remember] and Medi-Gold , which has a blend of 3 or 4 anti-biotics, including Kanacyn

this would be the best method

If I were you, I'd order both, and feed one in the morning, the other in the evening, and no other foods for 2 weeks. any other fish in your tank can eat this as normal food quite happily

Some folks would advise the use of a topical treatment as well. you may get mixed results with them, depending in part on how tame the fish is [fish that will eat from your fingers are less traumitized by being held] and how hard they are to capture. Its very important not to get most topicals near the gills, and that includes getting it inside the mouth, where it will imstantly hit the gills anyway.

Possible topicals would be iodine, either 2% or 7%, hydrogen peroxide 3%, and mercurochrome. You can also use neo-sporin. It won't stick to the wound unless you dry it with a bit of paper towel, and really lay the neo on heavily. If you do get it to stick, though, it stays with them for a while, which is nice.

There is also a topical called Panalog-- you may have to get it from a Vet. Its sticks better than the Neo. Since Neo and Panalog don't spread the way liquid meds do, they'd probably be safest [gill wise] for use on the mouth.

i hope that is of some help let me know how you get on

Dont add any chemicals to your water - it's usually not needed.

Its very common for large cichlids, especially oscars, to get that bump on their lip (I'm guessing its the lower lip cause thats where it usually occurs). Usually its from bumping or rubbing on the front glass or other objects.

Unless its bloody or has growth (fungus, stringy stuff, etc) , then the chemicals suggested by iloveoscar may work, or another alternative - melafix, a very safe "extract" to use.
