Tank size: 55 gal running since July/Aug
Ammonia: .5 (spike since adding the RTBS)
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 20
Ph 7.4

Jaws was acting kind of funny yesterday, not her active self. This morning I noticed her up in one corner at the end of the bubble wall just hanging there. Her nose looks like it had been dipped in milk and the milk had dried. (the only way I can describe it). Its not fuzzy or anything like that. Everyone else in the tank is acting fine, cories doing the corie thing, angels doing the angel thing and the knife fish hiding as usual.

edited for better picture
Any ideas? I can put her in a hospital tank but that would mean moving her back to my house from the office and it is super cold outside (-10ºF). Any ideas what this is?

Was this girl QT-ined before you added her???

Does the white spot on her nose look like she banged into something, or something hit it? Is she still eating normally?

And when was your last WC?

I've had her for almost a year and just moved her from my tank at home about a week ago (no problems in that tank for many months). I've never seen her eat anything in the time I've had her so I can't say she is or isn't eating. As far as banging herself, its possible but it doesnt really look like a wound. I've never seen anything quite like this. I wish I could get a better picture.
last water change was yesterday.

Very hard to tell from the pic but it looks like it could either be an early columnaris infection OR an injury that isn't liking the ammonia in the tank.

To avoid overmedicating and transporting her in the cold, it's probably best to assume it's an aggrivated injury. Ammonia is considered toxic to sensitive fish at as little as 0.1 ppm, so the first thing I would do is a partial water change to see if it helps her at all. You may also want to dose the tank with melafix. Melafix will probably not cure columnaris, if that's what it is, but it should prevent the infection from spreading. If it is an ammonia sensitivity/injury issue, the melafix will speed healing.

RTBS are generally hardy but can be very picky about water conditions, especially right after being moved around. Watch your water quality and let us know how she is doing. If you decide to go with clean water and melafix, keep an eye on her for the next few days to make sure her condition doesn't decline. Good luck.

She didn't make it, I found her dead this am. There still were no other signs of her being sick.

Sorry you lost her. From the picture it looks like a form of columnaris. Columnaris, which is responsible for mouth fungus, body fungus, saddleback lesions, caudal area lesions and more, presents itself in many ways. I have many pictures in several fish medical books and its unbelievable how many ways that bacteria can manifest itself.

Anyway, watch your other fish. If she did have it and others were picking on her after she died, their risk goes up and it is contagious. I'd go so far as to medicate the tank with Melafix and/or Pimafix for 7 days, after a partial water change (same temp).
