I just looked over at my tank a few minutes ago and noticed one of my zebra danios laying on its side on the gravel and not moving much, but without any noticable symptoms of having anything wrong. A little odd, so I took did my water tests and everything turned out fine (ammonia: 0, nitrite: 0, nitrate: 10, pH: 7.6), water temp hasn't changed (~78). By the time I finished the tests, the little danio was gone completely ![]() Thinking back to a few minutes before a few mintues ago, I remember hearing a little splash and looking over and seeing my angelfish dart away from the corner where the danio was found. So, the question is: Do I have something in my tank killing my fish (had a random, no symptom neon death about a month ago), or do I have something in my tank killing my fish (aka 'the angelfish')? What do you think? Oh, my tank (29 gal) is stocked with: 1 Angelfish 5 (now) Zebra Danios 5 (now) Neon tetras 3 Ottos 1 Mystery snail Last edited by skeletaljosh at 29-Sep-2004 14:39 |

It is hard to say for sure what may have happened but what I would do since you see no visible signs on the fish and your water is testing out fine is pay close attention to the fish at feeding time and watch if all the fish are eating normally. Pay attention to the fish feces and make sure that it is normal and not stringy and slimey looking. Are you aerating this tank? Have you added anything to the tank over the last six weeks? Changed food? You basically have to go through a process of elimination. Two "natural" deaths over a month isn't unheard of but it would make me wonder. |

I'm pretty sure all the fish are eating regularly and I'm not noticing any other problems. I'll post if anything else comes up. |
