I have 2 growing comets (approx 3 inches each) with an angelfish (approx 3 inches) in a 10 gallon tank. I realize this is not enough space, but they seem to have enough room presently. I do however plan on moving them to a new tank within the next few months when I get some extra cash.

One of the coments seems to have an extremely red gill, and has had this for quite some time (several months). At first I thought it was just his color, but the longer I look, the more I wonder if it's actually a problem.

Any thoughts? Zero ammonia/Nitrite, low nitrates, pH=7.5..

Thanks,
Justin

It sounds like ammonia poisoning. You will want to go have your water tested at a LFS, because I find it a wee bit hard to believe that 2 comets and an angel can have a proper cycle going in a 10g..

Your fish are going to stunt, and this will cause heath problems. Comet goldfish need to be in a 125g pond as they get to be 2 feet long. You angel needs a 55g aquarium as well.

Your fish WILL STUNT in a few months. Rehome them ASAP.

I also agree on having a LFS test those numbers. Commets and angels in a 10 is just asking for bad water quality. Angels need tall tanks. Commets need ponds. You can't just expect to move them when they "outgrow" a tank because they wont, they'll stunt. "Several months" is way too long for them to have been in a 10 and not get damaged.
