Hi. One of my two mbuna who are in a 30 gallon tank has gotten this thin red line right before his anal fin. I'm reluctant to think its fin rot because his tail is looking fine- no white fungus and no raggedness. Water parameters: ph: 8.6 ammonia:0 nitrite: 5 nitrate: 10
Any help would be appreciated!

It has been awhile since I had mbunas but there we go. My first concern have they been chasing each other or could he have hit something? Either way, I would dose with the Melafix, it is a good easy med to have on hand and is good for more issues. Keep us up to date on what happens and keep an eye on them. Hopefully this should help.

Work on the water quality too. Nitrite should be 0. Do a water change, along with a deep gravel vac to try and reduce it.
How often are you feeding your fish?

Yeah I'd second the water change, bacteria booster too if you have it.

Any power outages lately? Established tanks shouldn't have that nitrIte spike. Red lines are common in septicemia, septicemia a result of poor water quality.

Melafix wouldnt hurt either.
