One of my platies has been sick for at least 6-8 weeks. All of my other fish are fine, so I'm assuming old age, or tumor etc, but now he is starting to get fin rot, and look pretty sad and sorry. Is it okay to let him live out his days in my community tank, or should I quarantine him? Thoughts?

Hi Grommet

What have you tried thus far? Sometimes infections can stay at low levels and work on them for some time. Maybe in quarantine, you can try a more aggressive treatment, such as a sulfa mixture or tetracycline. Kill the lights if you use anything with tetracycline as it is deactivated by lights.

I don't give up on any fish that is still feeding.

How old is this fish?

Also, even tho the other fish seem ok, how about the parameters? What are ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and temp?

Are you using any salt?

Sadly, after 2 months of general lethargy and slow deterioration Mikey died last night

Parameters were all okay at last check, but I plan to do a water change and another check tonight, just to be on the safe side.
