Sick Angel- Lymphocystis? | |
Janna Mega Fish Posts: 1386 Registered: 24-Aug-2003 | I've recently set up my 125 gallon tank. It's been up and running with the fish from the 55 gallon that was in that place for about a month. When I set it up, I put in an adult angel that I'd had in quarantine/holding. She'd been in the 20 gallon for about 8 months, I think. Once moved to the 125, I noticed some fleshy pinkish lumps develop around her left pectoral fin, and both long pelvic fins. At first they didn't seem to affect her at all, but now she seems to be using her left pectoral less. There are other fish in the tank, including an adult male angel and a juvi angel. No other fish are showing similar symptoms. None of the fish are picking on her, althogh there was some territory settling between the 2 adults in the beginning. pH: 7.7 ammonia: 0 nitrite: 0 nitrate: ~5-10 (I'm dosing KNO3 for my plants, otherwise nitrate bottoms out and I get green water) I'll try to get pictures later, but none are available ATM. The bumps are small, maybe 1-2 mm, and pink, like flesh. What is this and what can I do about it? They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |

If your angel was caught with a net when you removed it from quarantine, that may have knocked off the coat in a few spots. In my experience angels have been very easy to net, but the fish can still receive superficial damage from the process. If it really is lymphocystis, the best you can do for your angel is to keep it stress-free and make sure it doesn't get any secondary infections. There's no proven way to treat this virus, and it goes away on its own after a month or two. It is not fatal unless it gets inside its victim, usually through damaged gills. This rarely happens though. |
