Sick Corydorus | |
JohnBeak Small Fry Posts: 1 Kudos: 1 Votes: 0 Registered: 03-Jun-2007 | I have a problem with a hi-fin emerald green corydorus. I am a rank beginner with a 4 month old tank. About 3 weeks ago I noticed a white patch on one side of the body at the top near the front of the dorsal fin. It looked as if there was a plate on the fish that had discoloured. I asked my local fish shop and was told that this was common and meant nothing. Now I see that there is a hole there- the flesh has been eaten away. It is still white. The fish behaves as it always has (I have 2 of these corydorus). I went back to the fish shop and they gave me Aquadene No 4 Gill, Fungus, Parasite Special. I have dosed once and am to dose another 2 times at 3 day intervals carrying out a 30% water change each time. I must take out all the plants (which I have done) and can only put them back in 7 days after the last treatment. Questions:1) Is what they have said reasonable? 2)won't taking the plants out and putting them back in change the whole balance of the tank? 3) should I rather have set up a hospital tank and put the sick fish in there for teatment rather than disrupting my main tank? how do I keep the plants healthy for 2 weeks- do I just put them in a bucket of water? |

In this way you would have more control over the disease if there is. It is important before treating fish is to know exactly what the disease is. As medication may cause the fish to be stressed further and instead of curing may kill the fish. |
