I have two Coral Blue Dwarf Gouramis in my 72 gallon bowfront. Recently, one of them has been extremely withdrawn, not eating very much, etc. Tonight, I observed him sitting on the bottom of the tank, leaning against a plant, and not responding to anything. When I put the fishnet in the tank, he resisted some, but not much. I put him into a netted breeding holder so I could observe him closer. He has a few scratches on his side, but no major damage. His eyes are not bugging out. Compared to the other Coral Blue, he is very thin in the stomach area and one of his feelers is half gone. He has no fin damage that I can tell, but in the breeding net, he is using his side fins to maintain a place close to the surface of the water.

My water conditions are as follows:

Ammonia - 0
pH - 7.0
Temp - 78F
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 10 (water change planned tonight)

Any input would help greatly.

Thanks,
oufannco

So you are saying the other one's eyes are bugging out?

No, the other's eyes aren't bugging out.

He is still acting very lethargic today. I think I am about to loose him. I lost another Blue a few months ago, but I thought it was because of another fish that attacked him. He had the same scratches on his side and he was stuck on the filter intake tube.

Still, if anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

After reading the "read this" post, I guess I left a few things out. Doh!

The tank has been established for at least 9 months and since it's initial cycling, I have not seen any Ammonia or Nitrite build-up.

Filtration: Fluvial 404 w/ Standard Foam Screens
Baskets Contain (bottom to top):
Fluvial Pre-Filter Ceramic
Activated Carbon Packs (2)
Peat Granular Packs (2)
Volcanic Rock (biomedia)
Ceramic Biomedia

Lighting:
Coralife 4' w/ 4 65W 6700k bulbs (love that light!)
Light is on about 5 hours per day.

Stocking List
6 BHTs - 2"
6 Mickey Mouse Plattys
6 Glowlight Tetras
6 Neon Tetras
6 Black Mollies - 2"
2 Angels - 3"
6 Albino Aeneus Corys
4 Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish
2 Powder Blue Gouramis
3 Bala Sharks - new and 2"
and, I know he shouldn't be in there....
1 young Bumblebee/Hornet Cichlid - new and 2"

There's a story behind the Cichlid. There are a major number of fish in this aquarium, but I take my water parameters 2 times per week and do weekly water changes. My nitrates never get above 10.

Also, I use Proquatics Water Conditioner and recently used a Jungle "fizzing" Ich treatment on the tank (with the carbon out of the filter). All that seemed to do to the tank was turn the whole thing dark blue and it almost instantly grew algae the next day.

If there is anything else anyone needs to know, just ask.

Thanks,
Dean

This morning, I woke to find that lethargy had turned to rigor mortis in the case of my Coral Blue.

If anyone has any input, I would really like to hear it. I’ve lost two of the original three in the past three months and I don’t want to loose the last one. The remaining one appears to be very strong at this time, adventurous and playful. It even goes after the baby Cichlid if he gets too close. Maybe the whole thing was a territorial dispute ]:| and the other two just lost out. Who knows?
