Probably around the last month they have been more low profile in my tank hiding around the back and in plants. One of them is a little curved along his body like a slight s shape when looking along him. I was wondering if they were hiding due to getting towards the end of their life (i've had them 1 year but were full grown when I got them) then I noticed the curved one had a white spot on its side raised out under a scale. I don't know if this is white spot no other markings were on the fish or the other gourami. All other fish look and are behaving just as normal. I treated the tank yesterday with wardleys promethyasul which is a broad spectrum antibac/fung/parasitic this treatment says to only use once a week. I used a dose around 75% of recommended dose as i realise some other tankmates may be sensitive. Since treatment I have had the light off. tonight I noticed the marking on the side of the fish is smaller but no behavioral change. any ideas what it might be? also should I put carbon back in in a week to remove traces of the meds? thanks 40gallon, set up 1 year no fish lost last 9 months. 30watt powerglow light, fluval 305 (rated 1000L/h), driftwood, moderatly planted, no snails 7 cardinals 7 rummynose 3 trin corys 1 female bristlenose 1 zeb danio 1 golden panchax 2 dwarf gourami ph6.4 nitrate 5 nitrite 0 ammonia 0 gh 3 ch 1 around 30% water change when nitrates reach 10-20 or monthly whatever happens first |

I don't want to lose all my other fish. From my brief reading am i right in thinking the fish could have had this condition since I brought them. |

Ive seen fish that have sufferred mycobacterium infections in the past being sold in fish shops, since they carry developmental trauma from having the disease early in life, and have survived with deformity into later life, so yes , its not impossible for fish with higher resistances to suffer infections of mycobacterium for many months. Gouramies are tough. |
